Originating from the North of England, Lisa’s foray into wedding styling and planning occurred by happy accident. A fateful meeting with the director of White+White whilst traveling up the East Coast of Australia two years ago resulted in a torn up return ticket and an unwavering determination
to create beauty wherever she went. Ideas were dreamt up, shoots were styled and weddings were planned across Queensland, Byron Bay, Sydney and Bali.

Recognized for her passion, dedication and ability to create an array of stunning design concepts, Lisa’s work has appeared in cult wedding blogs Magnolia Rouge, The LANE, Style Me Pretty, Belle Lumiere and Ruffled to name a few. She loves nothing more than creating a beautiful space that will blow her clients away and her obsession with travel, interiors and fashion only adds depth to her work.

With all of this being said, she was our fabulous wedding planner and without her, our amazing wedding would not have existed! I never imagined that when the time came for me to plan a wedding, that I would do it with the help of wedding planner. However, when we decided on our venue, they requested that we have one! So we connected with Lisa from Isla and Smith and immediately we knew that she was the perfect fit!! Our wedding day was the most spectacular day of our lives, seriously the most fun we’ve experienced! If you have been considering connecting with a wedding planner, you have to DEFINITELY contact Lisa – she specialises in destination weddings [and she’s just outright wonderful!]

Find out a little more about her here…

WHAT IS YOUR STORY? WHAT IS IT THAT YOU DO? I was a trained acupuncturist before realizing it wasn’t really making me happy cooped up in a grey building. I dreamt of stylish surroundings, sunshine and the ocean whenever I was in my (very sterile) clinic so decided to go to the very furthest point I could and emailed 2 event designers in Australia in the hope they may be looking for someone to join their team. I have no idea what possessed me at the time but something did and luckily for me, Danielle at white+white weddings and events was looking for someone to cover maternity leave. 6 weeks later, I had packed in the acupuncture, sold my car, moved to Australia and started my dream job as a bespoke wedding planner and stylist in the dream neighborhood in Brisbane. Then life happened and after 18 months, I moved back to the UK with the idea of bringing the beautiful Australian aesthetic to the UK and European wedding industry. That was 18 months ago (the magic number it seems!?) and now Isla & Smith plans stylish destination weddings for the most gorgeous couples around the world in Bali, Thailand, Ibiza, Mallorca, Italy, Yorkshire and Sicily to date, for which I’m super grateful!

WHAT INSPIRES YOU DAILY? Daydreaming, strangely enough! I’m a chronic daydreamer and living in the UK, where the weather is predominantly grey, it usually involves foreign climes and the romance of other cultures. Fashion, travel, interior design, architecture and being curious all inspire me on a daily basis.

HOW DO YOU USE THIS INSPIRATION TO CREATE WONDER AND JOY IN YOUR LIFE AND WORK? Daydreaming has its pluses! I use it to remain curious- I don’t think I’ve ever had a comfort zone because I can get restless quite easily so I like to push boundaries, which hopefully you can see in my work. Isla & Smith weddings never create the same vibe twice and each one is so very different, which I love-it keeps life fresh and exciting! Switching things up on a daily basis is a must for me too, even if it means going a different route to what I would normally take or heading to a different city…you never know where it will take you and that keeps my mind curious.

HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE SEEN WITHIN BUSINESS? As an innovator in event and wedding design, while not taking myself too seriously.

IF YOU COULD SAY ONE THING TO YOUR 16 YEAR OLD SELF WHAT WOULD IT BE? Ohhh so many things!! Don’t worry, you can start over many times-just start.

IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE TO THE UP AND COMING STYLISTS WHAT WOULD THAT BE? Don’t feel intimidated by what everyone else is doing. Just focus on what you love to do and you can’t go too far wrong-that passion will carry you everywhere!

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN AS YOU CREATE YOUR BUSINESS? To listen! I’m the first to jump before I look and can be quite impulsive at times but after years of being told to “take your time, listen and value patience”, I’m finally getting it-it all unfolds the way it’s supposed to as long as you take the time to listen to your gut instinct-it’s never wrong!

DESCRIBE TO US, WHAT HELPS YOU CREATE A LIFE YOU LOVE? My daydreamy nature- There was a saying that resonated with me years ago from Pablo Picasso: ‘if you can imagine it, it’s real’. I used to think this was airy fairy nonsense but it’s proved to be so true, my imagination creates a life I really love. Having clear aims and writing them somewhere you can see them every day to remind yourself where to aim really helps too. When I worked for white+white weddings and events I wrote down 4 aims that were always in front of me-half the time I didn’t notice them but every few days my eyes would settle on these aims and when I look back now, they have all materialized! Apart from living by the sea…but I’m working on that 😉

HOW DO YOU WISH TO INSPIRE GREATNESS IN THIS WORLD? Hopefully with my enthusiasm and encouragement, I hope to give people the courage to make the leap to do what they really want to do. Adversity in life is good and seeing it that way will open doors you never thought were possible.
